Carolina started the season with McMillan and Coker as its top two receivers, with Legette joining them in 11 personnel.
Legette missed last week with a knee injury, leading Brycen Tremayne to take over as the third receiver. The Panthers placed Legette on injured reserve Saturday. David Moore was elevated from the practice squad last week to serve as the fifth receiver and has since been signed to the 53-man roster. Coker suffered a quadriceps injury last week, leading him to be inactive this week. That pushed Tremayne to second on the depth chart, John Metchie III to third and Moore to fourth, while Ja’seem Reed was elevated from the practice squad to serve as the fifth receiver. The Panthers followed a similar pattern in this game, with Tremayne playing in 11 and 12 personnel, as well as on many of the snaps in 13 personnel. Metchie typically joined McMillan and Tremayne in 11 personnel, with Reed occasionally mixing in. Carolina centered its passing game around McMillan. While McMillan’s rate of snaps from the slot was similar to his other games this season, he was targeted on nearly half of his routes from the slot. Nearly half of his receiving yards and both of his receiving touchdowns came when he lined up there. He had only one reception from the slot over the first three weeks. It will be worth monitoring whether the Panthers increase McMillan’s slot usage after his success there in this game, even though that is where Coker often lines up.
