Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson Sr.

split the backup QB reps Wednesday, as they did in the spring. Richardson was first up in 11-on-11 drills and completed four of his five passes, including a play-action pass to tight end Drew Ogletree that went for a first down. Leonard finished 2-of-4 passing with his biggest play coming on an intermediate pass to tight end Sean McKeon. Leonard was also picked off in seven-on-seven by safety Trey Washington — the only interception of the day. “I’m really pleased with where A. R. is at coming off the eye injury in the spring and then going into training camp,” Steichen said. “Riley, too, (is) making good strides. Those guys will rotate. Those guys will compete, and I’m looking forward to the competition.” Richardson has not rescinded his offseason trade request. However, Colts GM Chris Ballard said Tuesday that the team has no intention of “giving him away” and commended Richardson for his professionalism amid an uncertain future. @Riley Leonard

Richardson Sr. and @Riley Leonard continued to share first and second-team reps, with Richardson getting the initial first-team work as he did when the media watched last week. After practice, head coach Shane Steichen said there was nothing to it, and they alternate each day. Both players went 2-for-3 in 11-on-11s; Richardson with completions to Mo Alie-Cox and Downs, and Leonard with completions to Eli Pancol and Drew Ogletree. Neither Richardson nor Leonard had any touchdowns, and Richardson threw an interception. It appeared he and tight end Will Mallory had a miscommunication, and cornerback Jaylon Jones was there to pick the ball off while on his knees, right in front of the goal line.
