Tennessee Titans rookie receiver Carnell Tate caught nine passes for 145 yards on a dozen targets last week against Baltimore, establishing
new single-game highs across the board. He also fumbled twice in the first half... Tate has a target share of 29. 6% through his first four games, the sixth-highest rate in the league according to TruMedia. Ward is averaging 8. 4 yards per attempt (YPA) when targeting Tate and his passer-rating is 94. 3. His YPA is a dreadful 5. 3 when targeting any other player, and his rating is 76. 7. But it didn't take him long at all to emerge as his team's unchallenged No. 1 receiver.

According to Sumer Sports’ charting, Ward has thrown just eight passes targeted more than 20 yards downfield. He’s 0-for-3 to the left outside the numbers, 1-for-4 to the right, and missed on one more that wasn’t charted by direction (for whatever reason). That’s one completion on eight attempts, with zero attempts to the deep middle....Near the end of last season, I wrote about how much better Ward is passing deep between the numbers than outside them. I understand defenses are playing to take that away. But finding zero opportunities there through four games is a failure on the Titans’ offense and coaching staff. I’m not asking for it very often! Once or twice in four games does not seem too hefty an ask.
