Watson played his first home game in 22 months and finished 5-of-12 for 36 yards, one interception and a 14.
6 passer rating. His first two possessions were three-and-outs. Watson’s best throw came on a dagger concept when the inside receiver cleared the middle with a post and Malachi Corley worked behind it on the dig. Watson delivered an accurate 20-yard completion. He followed that with a decisive 10-yard scramble after feeling interior pressure and recognizing man coverage. That was the high point of his afternoon. Watson’s next third-down pass was high and intercepted by Te’Cory Couch. The ball was forced into a tight window and Buffalo immediately turned the turnover into a 71-yard touchdown from Shane Buechele to Ja’Mori Maclin. Watson’s final possession ended when he threw behind Floriea on fourth down. Watson’s four meaningful possessions ended with two punts, an interception and a turnover on downs. It was a tough performance, especially compared with the pace, efficiency and command Sanders displayed during the first half.
