Klubnik made a strong first impression despite getting only two series with the starting offense.
He completed 5-of-7 passes for 56 yards, looked comfortable in the pocket and didn't turn the ball over. When pressure arrived, he used his athleticism to buy time while keeping his eyes downfield, and he was willing to throw the ball away or get out of bounds rather than force something that wasn't there. Aaron Glenn specifically praised his poise, confidence, arm and ability to create with his legs, especially considering Klubnik hasn't been getting regular first-team reps. The results were encouraging, too. Klubnik directed a 12-play drive that ended in a field goal, then a four-play, 48-yard touchdown drive capped by Braelon Allen's run. He also converted two third downs, and one of his better decisions came when nothing developed downfield and he simply threw the ball away rather than attempting a risky throw across his body. Glenn acknowledged there were still mistakes to correct, but called Klubnik's operation with the first unit "outstanding." The biggest negative was really the lack of opportunity: Klubnik threw only seven passes while Brady Cook eventually attempted 15 and Bailey Zappe 10.
