The Texans were criticized for selecting Klein in the second round of April’s draft, but he has made plays throughout training camp.
He did it again Thursday on the first drive, making a 31-yard catch from Davis Mills on a seam route. It was the Texans’ only explosive offensive play of the game. A few plays later, on fourth-and-1, Klein drew a pass interference penalty that gave the Texans an automatic first down and set up a touchdown. “He really shined today,” coach DeMeco Ryans said of Klein. “Everybody saw the pass that he caught. That’s where I see he can excel for our offense and open the offense up for us. His catch radius — it’s tough to guard him.” Ryans said he also liked his run blocking.

Dell took an important step in his recovery by participating in full-team drills for the first time since suffering a dislocated knee and torn ACL, MCL and LCL. He caught a pass from Davis Mills over the middle despite the ball being slightly behind him. Although the route could have produced heavy contact in a game, defenders clearly understood that Dell was not to be hit. He also looked good making toe-tap catches during individual drills. His surgically repaired knee is considered structurally sound, but he has yet to be tackled or fully exposed to contact, leaving significant stages of his return still incomplete.
