Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers have established themselves as the top two wide receivers on the Jaguars' depth chart, playing in both
11 and 12 personnel. Thomas has typically joined them in 11 personnel, but Josh Cameron has also become more involved. Cameron has been the Jaguars' primary wide receiver in 13 personnel, and he’s cut into Thomas’ time in 11 personnel. One reason Thomas’ snaps were up this week is that the Jaguars ran a higher percentage of plays out of 11 personnel compared to the previous three weeks. This meant a lot less 12 personnel. Naturally, with Thomas playing much more in 11 personnel, this would help his snap rate. His clip of playing in 11 personnel compared to Cameron didn’t change. However, Thomas also played four of 10 snaps in 12 personnel. This was not only his highest rate of 12 personnel snaps, but also his largest total despite the Jaguars running more than twice as many 12 personnel snaps in each of the first three games. Cameron didn’t play at all in 12 personnel this week. Thomas replaced Washington for three plays and Meyers for three plays. We should expect the Jaguars to shift back to more 12 personnel usage going forward depending on the opponent, so Thomas’ snap rate will dip back down. However, we might not see it go as low as it did in Week 3 if Thomas continues to mix in to 12 personnel.
