The Titans have primarily used Helm, followed by free-agent addition Daniel Bellinger at tight end this season.

David Martin-Robinson has been their third tight end, but he has mostly played in 13 personnel. Helm had played over 80% of snaps in 11 personnel on both early downs and third downs over the first three weeks, giving Helm an 81. 6% snap rate compared to 38. 0% by Bellinger. Helm had ranked third on the team in route participation rate at 63. 6%, behind Carnell Tate and Wan’Dale Robinson. Helm hasn’t been all that productive at tight end, with three or fewer receptions each game and only 55 yards over three weeks. This led Bellinger to rotate in more this week than the last three. Helm played 61. 5% of 11 personnel snaps on early downs and 66. 7% on third downs. This yielded only one target, where he caught a five-yard pass. While Helm was considered a sleeper option heading into the season, but he appears further away from breaking out than he did a month ago.

“I don’t disagree with the heavier dose. I would say that it’s a heavier dose of him being on the field, but maybe not a heavier dose of him being utilized in the passing game. Like, to me, the clear-cut number one passing game option is still Gunnar Helm, but because they are wanting to run more heavy with both of those guys on the field, he is involved more and he’s not a zero in the passing game at all. So I do think that he will get targeted some. I would still give the edge to Helm pretty clearly as a true receiver though.”
