Injury: Calf injury.
Expected Time Missed: TBD. Hollins left Sunday’s game with a noncontact calf injury, and the severity remains unclear. The calf helps generate the push-off needed for sprinting, accelerating and jumping, so lingering symptoms could limit his effectiveness even if he can play. His return timeline is still undetermined, making practice participation important this week. I would have another option ready, with Efton Chism potentially gaining opportunities if Hollins sits.
Hollins played 72.5% of snaps over the first three weeks, leading Patriots wide receivers. Romeo Doubs and DeMario Douglas have typically joined him in 11 personnel. The team used a significant rotation across from Hollins in 12 and 21 personnel, with Kyle Williams also mixing in. Efton Chism III also rotated in to 11 and 12 personnel at times, although he was primarily used in single-wide receiver sets. The rotation was largely the same in the first half of this game, although Chism notably played three of the six snaps in 12 personnel. His injury occurred at 10:14 mark of the third quarter. In his absence, Chism completely took over Hollins' role. Chism played 27 of a possible 40 snaps in the second half on snaps without Hollins, leading all Patriots wide receivers. Doubs, Douglas and Williams did not see a change in playing time due to Hollins' injury. This allowed Chism to score the game-winning touchdown for New England. If we find out the Hollins injury is serious, Chism is a fine player to consider off the waiver wire. Hollins had been the second player in snaps for New England even early in Week 1 when A.J. Brown was healthy. Even though Brown will likely return in Week 6, Chism could maintain a significant role. Until we know more about the injury, Chism is fine to pick up in deeper leagues.
