The Vikings have been trying to find an offensive spark at running back to help out Jones, who has been playing through a knee injury.
Instead, the backups haven't been able to rise to the occasion, and it has forced Jones into a bell-cow role . Meanwhile, Claiborne has played 23 offensive snaps in Minnesota's first four games this season. He has turned that into seven touches for 15 yards while averaging 2. 2 yards per rushing attempt. That type of production will not earn him a bigger role, especially when he isn't contributing much as a blocker, either.

In the final drill with McCarthy at QB, he ripped a throw to Jeshaun Jones about 15 yards away on a curl. The timing was spot on and the ball had plenty of velocity and accuracy. McCarthy got through his progressions and found UDFA Dillon Bell in the back of the end zone during the goal line drill. To open practice, he threw a dirt ball on a checkdown to Jordan Mason and then followed that up with an airmailed throw over the head of Jauan Jennings when the receiver was wide open on a crosser. There was an out route by Tai Felton where he looked open but the throw seemed off from a timing perspective and Zemaiah Vaughn was able to read it and break up the pass. Had the ball been delivered on time, it would have been an easy completion.
