Now, to be fair to Jones, the Colts’ offense has looked drastically different without his top receiver, Alec Pierce, who is sidelined
indefinitely after aggravating his surgically repaired left heel last month. Pierce led the league in yards per reception in 2024 and 2025. In his absence, Jones’ intended air yards per attempt have plummeted from 8. 1 last year to a career-low 5. 7 yards this season. But just because explosive plays have been harder to come by doesn’t mean Jones can continue forcing the issue with ill-advised throws.
The Colts signed Darius Slayton shortly after Pierce went down, and the move made perfect sense. Slayton has averaged 15.0 yards per catch throughout his career and spent six seasons playing alongside Jones in New York....Yet he has been inactive in back-to-back games....But being a coach's-decision inactive again in London, especially with Pierce on injured reserve and Keenan Allen out with a groin injury, is much more concerning.
