Tate dominated Titans training camp on Sunday, catching three touchdown passes from quarterback Cam Ward in a single move-the-ball period.
The rookie wide receiver beat all three of the Titans’ top cornerbacks and added another highlight catch during a backed-up drill, cementing his status as the most explosive pass catcher at camp so far. Tate’s three touchdowns came over Alontae Taylor, Cor’Dale Flott, and Marcus Harris. One of the scores came from outside the red zone (vs Taylor) while the other two came inside it, with one near the goal line. A couple of other media members on the sidelines confirmed it was his best day at camp. The Titans introduced a new drill Sunday that camp hadn’t seen yet. The offense started backed up on its own 3- or 5-yard line, and the objective was to generate that first bit of momentum and pick up an initial first down. Ward and the first-team offense converted on third down, and he went to the sideline quickly to hit Tate on what some on X call the “sideline seed.” Ward then told defensive linemen Jeff Simmons and Jermaine Johnson how good it looked. When you need a contested catch on the boundary, Tate is a cheat code.

Ward assumed responsibility for the miscues, even though he was not the actual culprit on either one. “It was just an operational standpoint that we can’t have. There was a sin by me not communicating everything with them. That’s something I’ve got to get better at,” Ward said. “It wasn’t on the o-line, it wasn’t on the receivers. I’ve just got to be better relaying everything. But I can’t start practice like that and we can’t do that as a group. We learn from it and we had better plays down the stretch, but we’ve got to start better.” The Titans recovered on that series and Ward had a pair of completions including one to Carnell Tate for a decent gain up the sideline. Ward did miss on a couple of throws in the 7-on-7 period, including an in-breaking route to WanDale Robinson that the smaller receiver could not haul in. In all, Ward finished the day 9-of-16 with a pair of touchdowns, both coming in red zone work. He had nice connection to Elic Ayomanor along the back end line and then in the next red zone drill found @Carnell Tate , who made a nice leaping catch in between Marcus Harris and Kevin Winston for the score.
