Steve Smith·
Pittsburgh added Michael Pittman Jr.
to give Rodgers the reliable intermediate target the offense lacked. Pittman is expected to handle plenty of digs, crossing routes and contested catches over the middle, using his physicality to box out defenders and consistently move the chains. His dependable hands and veteran route running make him a natural safety valve, much like the role Jordy Nelson filled for Rodgers during their Green Bay years. The early emphasis in practice has been getting Rodgers and Pittman comfortable on timing routes, with the expectation that their connection becomes a key piece of the passing game.
