Douglas’ promising start has been followed by a quiet stretch in which he has largely disappeared from the offense.
On one deep rep Monday, defensive back Chris Johnson blanketed him on what appeared to be a go route, legally impeded his path and forced Douglas to stop because he had no chance to reach the pass. Douglas was said to have only one catch over his past three practices, a significant slowdown for a rookie third-round pick who had previously shown considerable promise. He has also entered an area of concern regarding concentration drops. The talent has been evident, but his recent lack of production shows why expectations need to remain measured rather than treating him as an immediate high-volume NFL receiver.

Daniels has had a near flawless training camp campaign so far, but now it was time to see it against another team. Although the Dolphins were without defensive backs Chris Johnson and JuJu Brents, Daniels and the Commanders’ skill players had a field day. The Commanders were able to get separation against the Dolphins throughout the day in 11-on-11 drills, but Daniels also made beautifully layered throws into open zones to Terry McLaurin, Stefon Diggs, Antonio Williams, and the rest of the WR room. Daniels also showed growth in trusting his eyes, and not tucking the ball and running on plays. His comfort in the offense is very aparent, and he continues to look better than ever. Daniels made smart choices by working underneath when downfield options were covered. Wherever he threw, the idea followed: Put the ball where his guy could make the play and the defender couldn't. “As reps and time go on, you get more of a grasp and a feel for who can run what route, how Blough’s supposed to call it and how he wants to call things,” Daniels said. “This is what practice is for. So, day by day, I try to come in and have control of the offense and get one percent better.”
