But against Seattle, I think Brock Purdy is going to need to take some of the dicier shots he’s turned down at times this season.
The boundary, not the middle of the field, is the better place to beat the Seattle secondary. That vertical stretch will be difficult for a variety of reasons, but especially because the 49ers just don’t have a lot of speed or craft outside of Mike Evans. And, as Cody Alexander of MatchQuarters explains, Seattle uses a “Zeus” tag in Cover-6 to rotate the Cover-2 half safety to the star X receiver. You can be sure they’ll do some of that to Evans like they did to the Patriots’ A. J. Brown in Week 1.

Purdy’s sack-avoiding elusiveness was routinely on display Sunday in a 24-14 win over the Broncos. Purdy had a career-high 10 rushing attempts, and four were on scrambles in which the pocket immediately crumbled, or an offensive lineman was quickly beaten....Purdy is “doing a good job protecting himself,” Williams said when asked about the front five’s sack-less streak. “The play breaks down and he’s using his legs. So, it’s a team effort. I’d love to take all the credit as an O-lineman. But I’d be lying to you.”
