Another veteran flier the Bears brought in that seemed like an afterthought was running back Salvon Ahmed.
He was coming off a significant injury that forced him to miss an entire season, but had history with RBs coach Eric Studesville. Ahmed has proved the speed and explosiveness is still in there in the run game, including ripping off some big plays in the two preseason games. However, Ben Johnson challenged Ahmed that in order to make this roster, he's going to have to contribute on special teams despite only having 110 career special teams snaps. "If you've noticed, he's been on a lot of stuff," Hightower said. "He's made some headway there. He's done a good job improving."
Monangai avoided serious injury in what looked like a scary scene Sunday when he went down at the end of a run after being tangled with defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. He wasn’t tackled, as some suggested on social media. Monangai lying on the ground in pain and grasping his right knee didn’t look good. He has a hyperextended knee and is considered week to week. If the Bears were overly concerned about the situation, I’m not sure they would have waived undrafted rookie running back Coleman Bennett on Monday. With that move they’re down to three backs competing for a spot or spots at the back of the roster: Roschon Johnson, Salvon Ahmed and Brittain Brown.
