Kupp played 81% of snaps after averaging 60% over the first four weeks.
The Seahawks have Jaxon Smith-Njigba as their top receiver. Kupp was their second option last season, but it seemed like he would have significant competition this season. Rashid Shaheed had a full offseason to build more chemistry with Sam Darnold, while Tory Horton was coming back from injury. Smith-Njigba, Kupp and Shaheed have all played at least 93% of snaps in 11 personnel this season, with Horton as the only other receiver to see playing time. However, Seattle uses 11 personnel less than half the time, as the Seahawks also like 12, 21 and 13 personnel. They often play with a lead, allowing them to use those other personnel groupings. If a wide receiver were to emerge, he would need to dominate snaps in 12 and 21 personnel, as Smith-Njigba takes a lot of the 13 personnel snaps. Over the first four weeks, Kupp and Shaheed went back and forth in terms of who received more snaps, but neither receiver played more than 64% in a game. This week, Kupp took 86. 2% of those snaps, playing 25 of 29, while Shaheed took the other four. Shaheed still led the two in receiving yards, 23 to 15, with both catching two passes. Kupp is unlikely to be worth rostering in this role, but it is enough to potentially move on from Shaheed in fantasy leagues. His route participation rate has been 62% or lower in three straight games. While a wide receiver can have fantasy value with that low a route-participation rate, he needs to dominate targets per route, and Shaheed has only one game above 20% this season. He can be dropped in most leagues.
