Washington’s tight end room is arguably the most disappointing position group through four weeks, even with Chig Okonkwo’s two-game absence.
Sinnott was miscast in Kliff Kingsbury’s spread offense. That wasn’t thought to be the case in David Blough’s TE-friendly system, yet Sinnott has: the same number of receptions (one) as running back Austin Ekeler, who only signed with Washington last week.... In fairness to Sinnott, none of Washington’s tight ends are producing, or the system isn’t unlocking them as expected.
They may make some tweaks to tailor it a little to him, but I wouldn’t expect any wholesale changes. Mariota has played in a similar system in the past and has a skill set similar to Daniels’, even if the level of play isn’t the same. Mariota is in many ways the ideal backup. He’s a great mentor and leader, and has played enough and seen enough to step in and win a few games. Daniels, Mariota and offensive coordinator David Blough being together for their entire tenure in Washington makes the transition even easier.
